People often look at me and think I have been thin my entire life, and just have a great metabolism. But it actually never started out that way. As a child, my mother was always restricted in her eating, and so overcompensated in her adult years by overeating. In addition, my father never had to lift a finger, and so carried this routine into his adult years. Together, this led me to grow up believing that staying home and watching television, while eating a meal the same size as my father’s – was normal. So, from about 7 years of age, I slowly packed on the weight and never slowed down. I became depressed about my body and my relationships with food as my only comfort, and it pushed me to 86kg at the age 19. After reaching my heaviest weight, I knew that it was time to make a change.

Lacking the knowledge and experience that I now have, I went about my weight loss journey in the only way I knew – starving myself. I reduced the amount I ate to strictly 2 meals a day, and eventually lost 30kg without hardly exercising. I was ecstatic with the results I achieved, and thought I could finally start eating what I wanted again. So slowly but surely, I piled 12kg back on. Looking back on it now, I know it was because I found a short-term solution for my problem, rather than a long-term lifestyle change that I could sustain. Then in the last two years, I discovered the long-term benefits of high intensity interval training and healthy eating. And now, I feel fitter, healthier and more confident than ever.

So, having gone through my own health journey, you can see that I understand how it feels to be unhappy with what you see in the mirror. To struggle with diets and find a long-term solution. But I also know what it takes mentally and physically to commit to a change in lifestyle and achieve ultimate body confidence. Now I can think of nothing more rewarding than to share my experience with the world; educating and motivating people so they too can change their lives for the better and become the happiest version of themselves. My true passion comes from helping others lose weight, but also seeing their confidence grow and how much easier it makes daily activities. And I can get you to where you want to be!

My passion for physical activity was evident from an early age, as I excelled in various sports including football, touch, basketball and trampolining. This alongside my competitive nature, made me determined to give 100% in my games and events – but I lacked the discipline to reach the national level that I hoped for. In fact, this was a recurring theme in my education and self-care as well. Then I decided that enough was enough. If I wanted to live a better life where I achieved my goals, made something of myself and felt like I was making a difference in the world, then I was the only one who could make that happen.

So, I decided to join the Royal New Zealand Navy to learn teamwork, leadership and most importantly, discipline. The military constantly pushed me to think about where I was at that moment, what my goals were and how I was going to achieve them – and this was a key value that I have implemented in every aspect of my life since. I used to feel like the lesser one of the group, unsure of myself and less than happy with my body. Now I dedicate a large portion of my days to taking care of myself: staying active, pushing my body to its limits, regularly eating healthy and enjoying each day as it comes. This has led me to achieve overwhelming results in my fitness journey, boosted my self-confidence and also done wonders for my mental wellbeing.

Now having recognised the importance of discipline to achieve my long-term health and fitness goals, as well as happiness, I want to share this knowledge with others. I was overjoyed at my own success, but have always felt a humbling sense of pride when able to help others do the same. Since training clients, I have found that my biggest sense of achievement comes from meeting someone who is unsure about themselves, unhappy with how they look and has a reduced quality of life. Then seeing that same person filled with self-assurance as they feel great when they look in the mirror, and having the ability to tackle anything that life throws at them.
